TGDC Swap terms of use
Short, and true of the app as it stands. There is nothing here about payment, quotas or plans, because the app has none of those things.
Who we are
TGDC Swap is made by The General Data Company, San Francisco, USA. Using the app means accepting the terms on this page. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
What the app is for
The app reads a document you give it, finds personal data in it, and writes a new version in which those values are replaced by realistic stand-ins. Reading, finding and writing all happen on your device.
Your documents stay yours
We claim no rights in the documents you process. They stay on your device, and processing one gives us no interest in it whatsoever. The only exception is the one you trigger yourself, described three sections below.
What we do not promise
No automatic system finds every piece of personal data on every page. Handwriting, poor scans, unusual layouts and rare name forms can all defeat detection. The app checks its own output and holds a document back when something looks unresolved, but that check is a safeguard, not a guarantee.
You are responsible for looking at the result before you pass it on. The app shows you every replacement it made for exactly that reason. Do not treat its output as certified anonymisation, and do not rely on it alone where a legal or contractual obligation is at stake.
Use it lawfully
Only process documents you are entitled to process. Do not use the app to disguise material for fraud, forgery or misrepresentation, and do not use it to defeat a legal duty to disclose. A stand-in that looks real is a useful thing in the right hands and a dishonest one in the wrong hands; the difference is your responsibility.
If you hand us a document
The app can send a swapped document to us, from an explicit consent screen, when you choose to. Doing so grants The General Data Company a perpetual, worldwide licence to use that swapped document, including in datasets we license to third parties, and to keep using copies already delivered. Nothing is owed to you in return and nothing is asked of you.
Only send us a document if you hold the rights to it and are content for it to be used that way. Because the file you send has already had its personal data replaced, withdrawing it later has limits we would rather state plainly than hide: we will remove it from our systems on request, and copies already delivered under a licence cannot be recalled.
Accounts
An account is optional. You are responsible for the email address you sign in with. You can delete the account inside the app, under Settings, and that deletes everything attached to it: the username, the counts, and the board entry. You do not have to ask us.
Usernames and the board
The only thing you can publish through this app is a username on a board. There is no tolerance for objectionable usernames and none for abusive behaviour. A username that is offensive, that impersonates somebody, or that exists to harass a person is not allowed, and an account that uses one will be removed from the board and may be closed without notice.
Every entry on the board carries a way to report it and a way to block the account behind it. Blocking hides that account from your board immediately. Reports reach us directly, and we act on them within 24 hours: content that breaks the rule above comes down, and the account that posted it is ejected. Enough reports against one username take it off the board on their own, before anyone has read them, and it stays off until we have.
If you want to report something and cannot reach the button, write to levin@thegeneraldata.com. The same address reaches us for anything else on this page.
Stopping
You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it, which takes the documents held in it and the name vault with it. We may withdraw the app or discontinue the account side of it; if we do, the app on your device keeps working as a local tool, because that part never needed us.
Liability
The app is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from its use. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited, including for death, personal injury, or our own intent and gross negligence, and statutory consumer rights in your country are unaffected.
Changes
If these terms change, the version at this address changes and the date below moves. Continuing to use the app after that means accepting the new version.
